We study the restructuring of labor force after mergers and acquisitions. Overall is large. Net employment targets declines by more than half within two years acquisitions relative to a matched sample, concentrated in that close all establishments. There substantial increase employee turnover. place our analysis framework which acquirers seek growth options from provide managerial capabilities organize production efficiently. Consistent with this framework, we show turnover are both higher for managers, firms become hierarchical if they grow diversified. Acquirers have better-educated, better-paid, qualified workforce targets, adapt hiring new employees who much younger less expensive. Mergers create internal markets, active capacities. However, most external, especially managers.
